Why Crystal Deodorants are Not Safe

Note all the negative reviews about aluminum in deodorants online over the last couple of years. Many include reports of illnesses including the fact that it may even cause cancer. And recent TV reports talk about the dangers of using crystal deodorants, so there is a huge trend towards aluminum-free deodorants.

But there is confusion, because most consumers still believe that crystal deodorants are natural, but they are not really natural! Crystal deodorants still contain aluminum which is not beneficial to the body, some are synthetically derived, and just like most brands of antiperspirants, and they are all very bad for you.

The crystal deodorant business is booming but they are misleading everybody. There are several rock, or crystal, deodorants. These so called natural deodorants contain potassium alum and ammonium alum. There is no way to tell the difference just by looking at these crystals so reading the ingredients on the label is very important.

In fact, if you have been using commercial deodorants or antiperspirants, check the labels to see if the brands you have been using contain any type of aluminum, alum, petroleum or propylene glycol, any of all of which can lead to the buildup of chemicals under your arms, and even in the lymph glands. This can result in irritation as well as hygiene issues. There are also reports of other issues such as illnesses and even Altzheimers’ disease as a result of too much aluminum in our bodies.

What is better today, are aluminum-free deodorants – which are what you should be looking for online today or when, walking down the deodorant aisles in your drug stores or supermarkets. Keep in mind, one popular natural deodorant is the crystal deodorant stones or sprays. The challenge is that people just do not know that these crystal deodorant products contain aluminum.

Herbalix Restoratives’ Crystal deodorant stones are made from alum. The true name of potassium alum is potassium aluminum sulfate. While there are different types of alums, the most widely used form of alum used in the personal care industry is potassium alum (aka, potash alum), also called mineral salts.

These deodorant stones are not manufactured in a very environmentally-friendly manner. One common way for creating potassium aluminum sulfate is through a process known as hydrometallurgy, when sulfuric acid is mixed with bauxite ore. The reaction between these two chemicals creates aluminum oxide, which is then combined with potassium sulfate to form what is called potassium aluminum sulfate. Potash alum does naturally occur in mineral deposits such as alunite and kalinite.

Some educated people try to avoid aluminums in deodorant because they have heard about its possible link to Alzheimer’s disease. Aluminum is found in high concentration in brain matter affected by Alzheimer’s. This is why researchers are still trying to find out if and how aluminum compounds work within the brain.

These aluminum compounds found in anti-perspirants and chemicals such as aluminum chlorohydrate are also estrogen mimickers, which means that they can throw off your hormonal balance. The toxicity of potassium alum is also high. The trend is non-aluminum deodorants.

The bottom line is that using a crystal deodorant stone means it is not aluminum-free and it still poses a possible Alzheimer’s risk and contributes to toxicity in the human body.

Herbalix Cleansing Detox Deodorant™ is one of very few that can be called a truly natural deodorant because it does not contain any form of aluminum. It is pure and has organic detoxifying ingredients that work at night, providing six to eight hours of safe and efficient absorption of debris.
